Purple Tomte Press is a fantasy-inspired literary journal based in Spokane, Washington. Here at Purple Tomte, we thrive on all things whimsical, fantastical, and enchanting. We’re huge fans of worlds that don’t exist (but should!), and we’re itching to travel to new realms.
We’re setting out porridge and butter in the hopes of luring talented writers from the mysterious unknown. If you’re a hidden siren with a fresh new voice, consider this a symbolic removal of the beeswax from our ears. We’re ecstatic to be spellbound!
Rachel Sandell, Managing Editor/Founder
Greetings from the lilac city! I’m Rachel, a fantasy writer from Spokane, WA, where rainy days necessitate long books, hot chocolate, and lots of magic. I specialize in speculative fiction and harbor a love for the dark and enchanting. I’m an MFA graduate from the Rainier Writing Workshop and the archive project coordinator for Fireweed: Poetry of Oregon, and I run my own creative writing blog where I analyze story craft and occasionally post my work. My short stories have appeared in SORTES, Night Picnic Press, and Leading Edge, and there’s more to come!
When I’m not deep in the magical forest searching for gnomes and frogs, I can be found trying my hand at poetry, crafting, or cuddling my two cats, Pika and Bunny.
