Purple Tompte Press accepts submissions on a rolling basis. We accept short stories, poetry, and flash fiction. Please read through these submission guidelines carefully before sending your work.

You may send your submissions to editors@purpletomtepress.com. Please include a brief bio to let us know who you are and what you’ve been up to.

We accept simultaneous submissions. As writers ourselves, we’re familiar with how difficult it can be to find a home for your work. We’re happy to be one of many journals to have the honor of reading the stories you weave. All we ask is that you mention that your story is a simultaneous submission in your email to the editors. Please let us know if your piece is accepted elsewhere!

WE DO NOT ACCEPT WORK CREATED BY AI. We’re aware that AI can be an invaluable tool when it comes to revising and polishing your work. However, we do not have any interest in stories written by robots; we want to see stories written by you! We welcome the use of AI during the revision process as a support tool, but we will immediately discard submissions that are written solely by AI.

While we truly believe your hard work is worth its weight in gold, we are not currently able to pay for accepted submissions. But we can offer a means to introduce your work to the world and amplify your voice.

Please wait a minimum of 3 months before following up about your submissions. We’re a small team after all (and it can be difficult to wrangle enough forest gnomes to hasten the process along). We thank you for your patience!

Short Stories

We accept short fiction up to 8,000 words. Stories can be as outlandish or fantastical as you wish: it’s all up to your imagination! As long as it can be labelled as fantasy, we want to read it, whether that means sweeping magical lands or just one unusual thing in the real world that sticks out like a green thumb.

Poetry

You may submit up to 3 poems at a time. If you’re submitting multiple poems, please include them all within the same document and clearly label them. And again, as long as it’s fantastical by nature, be as creative as you want to be.

Flash Fiction

We accept flash fiction pieces up to 500 words. We’re aware this is a very small space to tell a complete story, but we often find that world-shattering stories can be the quickest of reads. Tell your fairy tale with wit and brevity!
