Here is a list of frequently asked questions. If you don’t find your answer here, send us a raven…or just email us at editors@purpletomtepress.com.

What kind of work do you accept?

We accept short stories, poetry, and flash fiction in the fantasy genre.

What is the word count limit for submissions?

We accept short stories up to 8,000 words, a maximum of 3 poems, or flash fiction pieces under 500 words.

How do I submit?

Send us an email at editors@purpletomtepress.com and include your submission and a brief bio telling us about yourself (what you like to write, if you’ve been published before, etc.). You can find more information on our Submit page.

Do you accept simultaneous submissions?

Yes! Please indicate if you’ve submitted your work elsewhere in your submission email, and if your work is accepted elsewhere, please let us know right away.

Do you pay for accepted submissions?

Unfortunately, no. We’re a small team and won’t be able to provide compensation for accepted material. We understand that all authors should be paid for their hard work, so we hope to be able to do so in the future.

Do you charge a submission/reading fee?

Not a cent!

Can I publish my work after it appears in Purple Tomte?

Absolutely! When your work is published by Purple Tomte, we acquire first rights, which means that you allow us to publish your work first. After that, you can take your material and publish wherever you wish!

Do you accept previously published work?

We do not accept previously published work. Purple Tomte is a place for fresh, new stories, and though we always love to hear from both established and up-and-coming writers, we’re looking for new, never-before-seen tales!
